Free coding club for young people in Gorey
Saturday mornings at Gorey Community School. Ages 8–17, all abilities, no cost, run by local volunteers. Prior registration essential.
-
Ages 8 to 17
Complete beginners are welcome. Ninjas work at their own pace, on their own projects, in a room matched to their level.
-
From Scratch to Python and beyond
Scratch, game development, micro:bits, Python and web development. Ninjas move up when they are ready.
-
Bring a laptop
A laptop and a charger, plus a notebook and a pen, is all you need.
How Ninjas progress
The Dojo is split into rooms by skill and interest, so an eight-year-old writing their first Scratch game and a fifteen-year-old building a website are both in the right room. Everyone starts in Junior Scratch and mentors will suggest when it’s time to move up.
-
Junior Scratch
Who it's for: Brand new programmers
Scratch, a visual programming language for games and interactive stories. Drag blocks together, no typing required.
-
Intermediate Scratch
Who it's for: Ninjas who have finished a few Scratch projects
Builds on the core fundamentals from Junior Scratch.
-
Project Scratch
Who it's for: Ninjas ready to work on their own ideas
Where Ninjas pull everything they have learned in Scratch together to develop their own projects.
-
Advanced rooms
Three rooms for Ninjas ready to move beyond Scratch. Mentors often focus on Python, web development, micro:bits and physical computing or game development.
We need mentors
You don’t need to be able to code. If you can sit with a curious eleven-year-old and read instructions aloud, then you can mentor. Ninety minutes on a Saturday morning and we arrange Garda vetting for you.
